Precision Machining
Our line of optical measuring instruments allow for a range of measurement tasks with extremely precise results, providing a highly reliable characterization of the geometry of a complete machining center.
®
CNC machines rely on the accurate realization of the geometric axes that are engineered to represent the ideal x-, y-, & z-axes. The straightness of each axis must be true. The perpendicularity of each axis to the others must be correct.
Modern 5- or 6-axis precision machining centers incorporate additional rotations of the tool or the part to enable some impressive part geometries to be produced with a single setup. These additional rotational degrees of freedom must also be made perpendicular or parallel to the axes.
Our line of optical measuring instruments makes these measurements the most accurate possible. Users can measure the straightness of an axis, the accuracy and direction of a spindle axis, and put it all together to characterize the geometry of a complete machining center.

Medical
Improving the accuracy and reliability of medical devices provides better outcomes for everyone.
Medical device leaders find that our equipment solves many challenges during assembly and quality control. An optical system in a modern medical microscope has many components and all must be aligned in order to give surgeons and researchers the best image possible. These images drive the breakthroughs that lead to better health outcomes for all of us. We are proud to be an integral part of the success our medical partners are driving.

Metrology
Every major national metrology institute (NMI, e.g. NIST) in the world uses our products.
Our products have become synonymous with accuracy and precision in angle measurement in several market sectors. Every major national metrology institute (NMI, e.g. NIST) in the world uses our products. Metrology practitioners in the most demanding industries have adopted our instruments as their best standards as well. Aerospace companies, semiconductor manufacturers, and those performing form measurement of x-ray optics are demanding the highest precision and accuracy possible and continually turn to our instruments. There’s simply nothing that can match the high quality of our instruments.
We’ve been able to serve these demanding requirements due to our unwavering commitment to accuracy and precision, a tradition established in the factory in Germany over 150 years ago. Today, our reputation is enhanced by the newest products advancing the art and science of angle measurement further.
Vermont Photonics has also worked to establish our own capabilities in metrology. We maintain a temperature-controlled calibration lab where we can provide NIST‑traceable calibrations for the instruments we provide along with performing precision measurements for industry. We can perform world‑class angular measurements on artifacts (e.g. wedges, polygons, prisms) or instruments. We can perform imaging measurements.

Optical Systems
The alignment of the various components of an optical system is paramount to achieving the performance it was designed to achieve. That is why our line of precision optical measurement instruments has become the reference standard for many of the industry's leading manufacturers.
Some examples of where our instruments are being used include microscopes, aerial and space-based imaging systems, and cell phone and automotive cameras.
In some cases, our products serve as a bench-top infinity reference when setting the focus. In other cases, our instruments serve as the angle reference as each component from a flat window, through each focusing element, all the way to the sensor are assembled into the complete system. Whichever use case, you can rest assured that our instruments are the best standard to use.
For the cinematography sector, we partner with Duclos Lenses who has a long history of producing and servicing the most advanced lenses used in cinematography. They recognized that our products set an imaging standard that nothing else could match. We recognized their attention to detail and pride in workmanship in everything they do. Together, we believe the cinematography sector to be well served by our partnership.
