Alignment Instruments

The  Möller-Wedel line of Alignment Instruments are very useful in a variety of settings and conducive to harsh outdoor environments.  The robust construction using stainless steel tubes ensures precision and accuracy across a range of conditions.

Vermont Photonics offers the complete line including an escape collimator as well as alignment telescopes and alignment autocollimators with straight viewing, 90° viewing and versions with a digital double micrometer.

ALIGNMENT INSTRUMENTS

Introduction

Alignment systems are precision instruments for aligning objects along an alignment line. Their special feature is that the optical axis is retained during focusing. This feature makes these instruments ideal for alignment of bores, bearings, optical structures, etc.

The instruments are also characterized by a large focusing range that extends from the end of the tube to infinity.

Depending on the measurement task three types of alignment instruments are available: Alignment collimator, alignment telescope and alignment autocollimator.

ALIGNMENT INSTRUMENTS

Functional Principle

The optical axis is coaxial with the receiving tube. This makes the use of the alignment telescope particularly easy when aligning bores, bearings, etc., since the reference line is already fixed in the reference bore or in the reference bearing when the alignment telescope is accurately mounted. The following figure shows the use of the alignment autocollimator for the alignment of bores. For this purpose, target marks are inserted into the drill holes and aligned in one line by means of the alignment telescope. At the same time, the targets can also serve as autocollimation mirror, so that the axes of drill holes can be aligned parallel when using an alignment autocollimator.

Alignment Collimator

An alignment collimator allows the image of the collimator reticle to be projected precisely along a reference line to different target distances.  The real image of the reticle appears rotated by 180°.

Alignment Telescopes with Straight Viewing - FFG

An alignment telescope with straight viewing has the user's line of sight co-linear with the objective axis. The image of the target appears in the eyepiece focal plane laterally and vertically reverted. These alignment telescopes are preferably used in horizontal direction, where the eyepiece is at eye level.

Alignment Telescopes with

90° Viewing - FFR

An alignment telescope with 90°-viewing has the user´s line of sight at 90° to the objective axis. By a special deflection optic the target image appears in the eyepiece focal plane upright and right-away around.
These alignment telescopes are preferably used down-looking or on optical tables where a straight viewing is not feasible.

Alignment Autocollimators

Alignment autocollimators combine the feature of the alignment collimators and telescopes.  They offer the additional possibility of measuring the tilting angle of the target with respect to the reference line.
