MELOS (Measuring Equipment for Lenses and Optical Systems)

The Measuring Equipment for Lenses and Optical Systems (MELOS) is designed to be a multi-purpose, vertical lens bench for making measurements effective focal length, wedge, radius of curvature and centering.

The MELOS 530 is used for focal length, back focal length, radii and wedge angles which can be tested quickly and easily. Improvement to the mechanics and optics of the instrument make it possible to measure radius and back focal length from ±5 mm to ±530 mm. The measuring range can be decreased or increased on special request.

The big advantages over other systems are:

• Fast switching between the different measurement modes. Due to an improved set-up, no time consuming change of the measuring system is necessary.
• Precise adjustment of the image planes using the monitor display.
• Direct reading of the measurement results on the stand-alone display unit. All calculations necessary for the evaluation of positive and negative focal length measurements are carried out on the display unit.
• Results can be stored in a table and transferred to a computer for documentation purposes.
• By using an interferometer module the MELOS 530 can be converted easily into an interferometric workstation for measurement of flatness, wavefront and sphericity.

We offer 8 MELOS combinations for a variety of applications:

Combination 1

Measurement of positive focal lengths and back focal lengths.

Combination 2

Measurement of positive and negative focal lengths as well as back focal lengths.

Combination 3

Measurement of positive and negative focal lengths, back focal lengths, and concave and convex radii.

Combination 4

Measurement of positive and negative focal lengths, back focal lengths, concave and convex radii, and wedge angles.

Combination 5

Measurement of positive and negative focal lengths, back focal lengths, concave and convex radii, wedge angles, and surface form deviations.

Combination 6

Measurement of concave and convex radii.

Combination 7

Testing of wedge angles.

Combination 8

Measuring combination for surface form deviations.
